MAXIMIZING ATHLETE NIL OPPORTUNITIES

As part of PMG’s services, our team can help athletes maximize their name image and likeness opportunities. We work together with our clients to identify opportunities off-the-court that align with their personal values, and help them craft creative, authentic campaigns for brands looking to connect with our stable of emerging athletes.

THE SILENCER IN STILLWATER

On a Saturday night in February, Javian McCollum hit a game-winning buzzer beater to beat Oklahoma’s in-state rivals for what might have been the last time ever due to conference realignment.

”The Shot” electrified the state of Oklahoma, and by the next morning, we were on the phone with friends in the industry to see how PMG could help Javian capitalize on his big moment.

After talking to Javian, he kept repeating how teammates, his coaches, and fans couldn’t believe how silent the Oklahoma State gym got after he hit the historic shot at the last second. And so a nickname was born.

By Tuesday, “The Silencer in Stillwater” had a shirt online for sale, where he earned dollars from every Oklahoma Sooner fan who wanted to remind Oklahoma State what happened in the final Bedlam game.

MY TWO COACHES

As a member-owned credit union, IH Mississippi Valley Credit Union is focused on the communities they serve in Iowa and Illinois. To help them reach teenagers across the region, we connected them with PMG athlete and Class of 2025 high schooler Divine Bourrage.

In the campaign, Divine helped IHMVCU teach financial literacy through videos and blog posts; showcasing the process with one of IHMVCU’s financial coaches. She has two coaches; one on the court, and one with her money.

Through IHMVCU, our team also saw an opportunity for Divine to connect with individuals inside her local community that can help her to make financial decisions in the future as she grows as an athlete.

SHOP THE TUNNEL

Through luxury labels that include Thom Browne, Casablanca, Proenza Schouler, Zimmermann, Brunello Cucinelli, JW Anderson and a beautiful 28,000 square foot retail location, AK Rikks has established itself as one of the Midwest’s pre-eminent fashion destinations.

With such a strong in-store experience, the next question became how to translate that brand online and on social media. The answer, of course, was tied back to another reason AK Rikks has seen so much success; it’s in-house styling services.

As a team we wondered, “what if we used the NBA Tunnel Fashion trend to do this for AK Rikks in an untapped channel; college basketball?”

The resulting campaign saw one of their in-house stylists create walk-in looks for Oklahoma athlete Javian McCollum's games, photographed them at the Skirvin Hilton Hotel, and scheduled the looks to drop a few hours before each tip off through the rest of the season (with links to buy) like Javian had a team with him the whole time.
