A standout first baseman for Alabama State University, Juan Cruz has made a strong impression early in his collegiate career. Standing 6'5" and weighing 240 pounds, Cruz hails from Apopka, Florida, and showcases a powerful right-handed bat. In the 2024 season, his freshman year, Cruz demonstrated impressive offensive production, playing 47 games and posting a stellar .388 batting average. He recorded 11 home runs, 10 doubles, and 57 RBIs, with a 1.071 OPS, showcasing his combination of power and consistency at the plate.
Cruz’s ability to perform in clutch situations helped him become a vital piece of Alabama State’s offense and he was named SWAC Freshman of the Year, and to the All-SWAC First Team for the 2023-24 season. His standout moments included a dramatic walk-off home run that lifted Alabama State over Florida A&M in a tight 6-5 game, a 3 for 5, three-home run, 5 RBI performance vs. Grambling, 21 multi-hit games, and finishing the year on a 23 game hit streak. His success at the plate and leadership on the field make him a player to watch as he continues to develop at the college level.
